The Yankees' Comfort Zone: Is Making the Playoffs Enough? (11/7/26) - CF28-132
The New York Yankees have the resources, the history, and the expectations. So why does another offseason feel like we're having the same conversation all over again?
The Yankees are coming off another season that leaves plenty to discuss. Making the playoffs is one thing. Building a team capable of winning the World Series is something entirely different. And after watching the World Series unfold, it's difficult not to wonder whether the Yankees need to rethink how they operate.
Chris, The Podcast Padre, and The Podcast Paisan are back for the infamous November podcast, kicking off a series of offseason conversations about the direction of the franchise.
This episode focuses on two major areas: Yankees management and the pitching staff.
We start at the top with Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, and Aaron Boone. Is ownership satisfied with simply reaching the postseason? Has Cashman been given too much security? Should Boone be entering his final season as manager, and would a different organization allow him to manage differently?
We also examine the Yankees' approach to developing young talent. Cam Schlittler has emerged as an important homegrown success story, but what about Anthony Volpe, Spencer Jones, Jasson Domínguez, and the next generation of Yankees prospects? Do fans need to show more patience, and does the organization need to give its young players more opportunities to develop?
Then we turn our attention to the 2027 pitching staff. Gerrit Cole's return didn't necessarily go as expected, Max Fried experienced some ups and downs, and Cam Schlittler has emerged as a potential cornerstone of the rotation. Should the Yankees pursue Michael King in free agency? Is Tarik Skubal worth the investment? Could Carlos Rodón become a trade candidate? And what does the market for left-handed pitching look like?
As always, there are opinions, disagreements, questionable managerial suggestions, and plenty of Yankees frustration.
The Yankees have 27. We're chasing 28.
